Report, J. D. Church (GCSD): Interview, Cara Dudley

Ted Kimble's handwritten notes are included.

Guilford County Sheriff's Department
Supplemental Report
1. Incident Number: 951009027
2. Victim's Name: PATRICIA GAIL KIMBLE
3. Day/Date/Time of Report: Fri Aug 30 10:07:49 EDT 1996
4. Narrative: TELEPHONE INTERVIEW WITH CARA DUDLEY, 274-5550

I CONTACTED CARA DUDLEY BY PHONE AGAIN IN REFERENCE TO PATRICIA CONTACTING HER ABOUT THE INSURANCE TED HAD TAKEN ON HER JUST BEFORE HER DEATH. CARA AND PATRICIA WERE VERY GOOD AND CLOSE FRIENDS.A CARA STATED THAT SOMETIME AFTER THE SECOND WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 1995, SHE THINKS IT WAS THE THIRD WEEK OF SEPTEMBER, PATRICIA CALLED HER AND STARTED TALKING ABOUT TED. SHE SAID THAT TED WANTED TO BUY A MOTORCYCLE AND THAT SHE DIDN'T WANT HIM TO GET ONE.B CARA SAID THAT PATRICIA TOLD HER THAT TED HAD TAKEN A VERY LARGE LIFE INSURANCE POLICY OUT ON HER. SHE SAID THAT PATRICIA WAS VERY UPSET AND TOLD HER THAT SHE WOULD HATE TO BELIEVE THAT TED WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HER BUT SHE WANTED SOMEONE TO KNOW ABOUT THE INSURANCE POLICY IN CASE SOMETHING DID HAPPEN TO HER. SHE ALSO SAID THAT SHE DIDN'T SIGN ANYTHING TO GET THE POLICY AND THATD TED MUST HAVE FORGED HER NAME IN ORDER TO GET THE POLICY.

CARA SAID THAT PATRICIA ALSO TALKED ABOUT TED BUYING THINGS THAT THEY DID NOT NEED, LIKE A NEW CHAINSAW THAT HE ONLY USED ONCE AND THAT WHEN HE DID BUY ANYTHING THAT HE WOULD ALWAYS BUY THE MOST EXPENSIVE ITEM OF WHAT HE WANTED AT THE TIME. SHE WAS VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS ALSO.

CARA SAID PATRICIA WENT ON TO SAY THAT SHE DIDN'T NEED ANY MORE LIFE INSURANCE, THAT SHE HAD ENOUGHT AND MADE THE STATEMENT, "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY TED WOULD HAVE IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME?, HE WOULD HAVE A LARGE SUM AFTER THE BILLS WERE PAID.E

IT WAS AS THOUGH PATRICIA REALLY THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN TO HER AND WANTED HER BEST FRIEND TO KNOW. CARA DIDN'T TALK TO HER ABOUT IT ANYMORE AND SAID THAT WHEN SHE HEARD THAT PATRICIA WAS DEAD THAT THE FIRST THING SHE THOUGHT OF WAS WHAT PATRICIA HAD CALLED AND TOLD HER.

CARA CALLED CRIMESTOPPERS AND GAVE THE INFORMATION AND SPOKE TO ME AFTER LEAVING A NUMBER AT CRIMESTOPPERS. AT THAT TIME WHEN I SPOKE WITH CARA SHE WAS VERY VERY UPSET AND COULD NOT STOP CRYING SHE DID NOT GIVE ME HER NAME AT THAT TIME BECAUSE SHE WAS AFRAID THAT SHE HAD INFORMATION THAT PATRICIA HAD TOLD HER THAT MIGHT MAKE SOMEONE COME AFTER HER AND DO HARM TO HER.

3. Reporting Officer/Assignment: DET. J.D. CHURCH

(84)

A-Patricia and Cara used to be really close.  Scence Cara married David we hardly seen her.  Cara and David were in another Sunday School class so other than speaking between services or on the phone we never seen them.  They never had any money to go anywhere.  They have children so were limited to what they could do.  We never once double dated.  They may have come to our house 2 times but only the first year we were married and we only went to their house a couple times.  Does this sound close to you?

B-Darrel kept bringing it up at church.  I'd speak of it in front of Patrica and she'd get mad about it.

C-It wasn't a policy.  It was an application.

D-Several people knew.

E-Without the policy I wouldn't have enough to pay the house off.

J.D. Church wrote this.
