HATFIELD &
HATFIELD July 21,
1998 Mr. Robert McClellan Attorney at
Law Mr. John D. Bryson Attorney at
Law Greensboro,
NC 27265 Dear Bob and
John: Enclosed
herewith are three documents which I obtained copies of last week
when David and I were given our viewing at the Sheriff's evidence
room. The recipe
for the will was previously disclosed without explanation. David and
I have the following questions: (1) Does Ted
recall when and the circumstances of the writing of the recipe of
the will? (2) Is the
recipe for the will in Patricia's handwriting? We note that
the recipe does not provide for disposition at Ted's nor Patricia's
death. It appears to be a recipe for joint death. With regard to the basis of the paper that has the numbers 350,000 and 25,000 and the numbers 100,000 (mom); 50,000 (dad); 250,000 cash, what do these numbers mean? They appear to be a continuation of the recipe page setting out who would get Ted and Patricia's property in the event of their joint death. The home would go to Patricia's mom and the business to Ted's dad. The figure 250,000 could only come from two $100,000 and two $25,000 life insurance policies. After the debts are paid, there would be $200,000 left and that is the figure in the box. Are we right in assuming that the recipe and the page with the numbers are in fact two related documents? Is Ted in a position to testify to the circumstances of the creation of these documents. Mr. Robert McClellan Mr. John D. Bryson Page Two Next, we
need to know whether the narrative piece of paper is in Patricia's
handwriting. It describes her relationship with three different men,
Jim, Doug and Dean and it talks about sex. Church says this paper
was simply lying in the kitchen along with other papers that you
would normally find lying around in a kitchen. Please ask Ted if he is in a position to testify on Ronnie's behalf and if so when can David and I meet with him.
Very truly yours,
/signature/ John B. Hatfield, Jr.
