APPLICATION FOR SEARCH WARRANT
I, J.D. Church, Detective/Corporal, Criminal Investigation Division,
Guilford County Sheriff's Department, being duly sworn, request that
the court issue a warrant to search the person, place, vehicle, and
other items described in this application and to find and seize the
property described in this application. There is probable cause to
believe that items of evidence relating to a homicide which occurred
on October, 09, 1995, such items are including, but not limited to:
a confirmation letter from Life of Georgia Insurance Co., such
letter being in reference to Patricia Gail Kimble, the victim of the
homicide which occurred on October, 09, 1995. Books and manuals of
instruction relating to making explosive devices, firearm silencers,
defeating machines, chemical tests and interviews.
constitutes evidence of a crime and the identity of a person
participating in a crime, Violation of the North Carolina General
Statues, G.S. 14-17

THE APPLICANT SWEARS TO THE FOLLOWING FACTS TO ESTABLISH PROBABLE
CAUSE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A SEARCH WARRANT:
This applicant has been a sworn law enforcement officer for the past
fourteen years and have been with the Guilford County Sheriff's
Department. This applicant has been an investigator in the Criminal
Investigation Division since 1989. This applicant has received
training in investigations involving larcenies, thefts, transfer and
distribution and possession of stolen property burglary
investigations and homicide investigations, death investigations and

has executed
numerous search warrants for criminal violations. This applicant has
made numerous investigations leading to arrests and convictions in
the Guilford County Court System.
This applicant has been involved in a homicide investigation which
occurred on October 09, 1995 in Guilford County in which the victim
was Patricia Gail Kimble.
On April, 01,1997, members of the Guilford County Sheriff's
Department executed a search warrant at the premises of Lyles
Building Materials & Surplus-located at 1700 West Lee St.,
Greensboro N.C. for items of stolen property. This business being
owned and operated by Theodore Mead Kimble, who was the husband of
the homicide victim, Patricia Gail Kimble.
During the execution of the search warrant at the above location on
04-01-97, numerous items were discovered which included a letter of
confirmation on a life insurance policy from Life of Georgia
Insurance Co. in reference to Patricia Gail Kimble. Also found
during the search was various instructional books and video tapes
relating to beating machines, chemical tests, and also related
instruction on interviews, smuggling, explosives and detonators,
making silencers for firearms.
This applicant has been involved in investigations and search
warrants in which items of evidence such as financial records and
documents, insurance records and documents, employment records and
documents, papers, records, ledgers and documents tracing financial
assets, incomes and expenditures, income tax records, items showing
ownership of real and personal property
were found. This applicant has also found it common that persons
involved in various types of criminal activities to often possess
various types written, audio, and video instructional material
relating to various crimes committed by these persons and that the
materials are used to educate and aid these persons in committing
the related crimes.
Based upon the foregoing information, this applicant believes there
is probable cause to believe that the premises located at 1700 West
Lee St., Greensboro N.C. contains items of evidence related to the
Homicide investigation of Patricia Gail Kimble, which occurred in
Guilford County on October ,09,1995.
