4. Narrative: THE FOLLOWING IS AN INTERVIEW WITH LINDA THOMPSON CHERRY. TAKEN ON 16JULY97 1030HRS. AT HER WORKPLACE, DALLAS FURNITURE COMPANY, HIGH POINT, N.C.

PATRICIA KIMBLE AND I WERE GOOD FRIENDS.^A WE ATTENDED THE SAME CHURCH AND WERE ACTIVE IN SOME OF THE SAME THINGS AT THE CHURCH. WHEN WE WERE IN THE YOUNG MARRIED CLASS WE BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS. THIS WAS THE SUMMER BEFORE SHE DIED. THAT SUMMER, IN JULY OF 1995 WE WENT ON A RETREAT AT THE BEACH WITH THE YOUNG MARRIED CLASS. DURING THIS TIME WE BECAME VERY CLOSE AND SORT OF BONDED TO EACH OTHER. WE TALKED ON THE PHONE ONE OR TWO TIMES EVERY WEEK.^B WE SHARED OUT EXPERIENCES AND DISCUSSED THINGS THAT WERE GOING ON IN OUR LIVES AND IN THE CHURCH.

ON ONE OCCASION ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE PATRICIA DIED SHE EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT HER MARRIAGE. SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT TED NOT SPENDING AS MUCH TIME WITH HER AND NOT SHOWING^C HER THE AFFECTION THAT HE HAD SHOWN PREVIOUS TO THIS TIME.
 

PATRICIA DIDN'T LIKE THE FACT THAT TED HAD TAKEN A PART TIME JOB AND STATED THAT WHEN SHE TALKED TO TED ABOUT THE JOB THAT HE BECAME IRRITABLE AND REACTED WITH A DIFFERENT ATTITUDE.

DURING THIS SAME CONVERSATION PATRICIA TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD ASKED TED WHY HE HAD MARRIED HER AND TED TOLD HER THAT HE HAD MARRIED HER FOR THE PURPOSE OF SHARING A BED TOGETHER.^D PATRICIA WAS VERY UPSET ABOUT TED RESPONDING THAT WAY AND SHE EXPRESSED HER FEELINGS TO ME ABOUT THE ANSWER SHE HAD GOTTEN FROM TED.

SHE ALSO SAID THAT TED HAD BEEN HAVING MOOD SWINGS RECENTLY OR OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS BEFORE HER DEATH.
 

PATRICIA TOLD ME THAT TED WAS ALWAYS BUYING THINGS AND SPENDING MONEY^E AND SHE DIDN'T GO ALONG WITH HIM SPENDING MONEY THE WAY HE DID. SHE SAID THAT THE PART TIME JOB THAT TED HAD TAKEN WAS FOR MONEY FOR HIM TO SPEND. SHE SAID THEY DIDN'T NEED THE EXTRA MONEY THAT CAME FROM TEDS EXTRA JOB. PATRICIA ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE JEEP THEY BOUGHT WAS NOT NECESSARY OR THE BOAT BUT TED WANTED THEM. SHE DID SAY THAT THEY ENJOYED THE BOAT.^F

APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AFTER PATRICIAS DEATH MY HUSBAND AND I ALONG WITH THE YOUNG MARRIED CLASS WENT TO EAT AT THE ROCK OLA AS WE DID ON THE LAST SUNDAY NIGHT OF EVERY MONTH. TED SAT BESIDE MY HUSBAND AND DURING THE MEAL TED TOOK A NAPKIN AND WAS DRAWING A FLOOR PLAN OF A TWO STORY HOUSE AND STATED THAT IT WAS WHAT HE WANTED. HE KNEW MY HUSBAND WAS A DRAFTSMAN AND ASKED OR MENTIONED TO HIM THAT HE MIGHT CONTACT HIM OR GET HIM TO HELP TO HELP HIM DRAW UP THE PLANS TO THE HOUSE.

MY HUSBAND AND I THOUGHT AND TALKED ABOUT THIS AND THOUGHT IT WAS VERY STRANGE THAT TED WOULD WANT TO BE BUILDING A NEW HOUSE.^G TED NEVER DID

A-Not that good because Linda gossips.  NOTE:  If it was that good how many times did she and her husband get up with us "maybe" 1 time.

B-More like 1 or 2 times a month.  (This was about upcoming events)

C-I was working 80-85 hours a week.  I was short handed at Lyles Building Mtl.  Rodney Woodberry had quit.

D-You know that's a lie.  I once live with this woman before I married her.  We'd been sleeping together for over.

E-Patricia fussed about how I spent money before I married her and after.

F-I wanted a motorcyle and Patricia wanted a boat.  Patricia's family had a boat when she was a child.  I agreed not to buy a motorcyle and get the boat.

G-It was for the lot in Ashboro that "Patricia and I bought"

*NOTE:  People may claim to be our friends but the truth is:  unless we were having a class party no one ever called or tried to get up with us.  We visited my fathers church off and on and spoke of changing churches.  "Patricia made comments to my mother about the lack of friendship."  These people seem to have their own little clicks.  Either we called them or we didn't hear from them.  The question to ask is, If you were such good friends, other than speaking on the phone or a class get together, what did you ever do with this person?  How long was it before she died?

CONTACT MY HUSBAND ABOUT THE HOUSE PLANS AFTER THAT NIGHT. I ALSO COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY TED WANTED SO BIG A HOUSE.^A

THE REASON I DID NOT CONTACT DET. CHURCH BEFORE NOW WAS BECAUSE MY HUSBAND DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD BE ANYTHING THAT COULD BE USED IN THE CASE.
 

I DID CALL CRIME STOPPERS RIGHT AFTER PATRICIAS DEATH AND TELL THEM THAT TED AND PATRICIA DIDN'T HAVE THE GOOD MARRIAGE THAT TED SAID THEY DID.

A If it was SO BIG, how big was it?  The lot in Ashboro is zoned for a 1400 sq Ft house.  I've changed my mind 10 times about what to build. 

NOTE:  the dates on a lot of these interviews are 8 months after her death and everyone was mad at me by this time.
