CONFERENCE WITH RONNIE KIMBLE 4/2/97 AT GREENSBORO JAIL
I told
defendant I bet Wally Harrelson would step aside and that Dave North
would be appointed to represent defendant's brother. At noon
today I talked to Ronnie's wife (Kim Kimble) and her mother. At 11:00
a.m. I talked to Jim Kimel who told me Dick Panosh was assigned to
the case a year ago. Kimel said Ronnie Kimble was a strong prospect
for death penalty because murder for hire. Also pecuniary gain which
Kimel did not mention. Defendant
says Detective Church showed him pictures of burned body of victim. Church et
al. never read defendant Miranda rights until they got back here
from Lejeune. Arrested 7:00 a.m. 4/1/97. Church got there at 10:15 -
7:00 p.m. defendant got Miranda rights. They tried to persuade
defendant to confess. They made
speeches to defendant all day. Ignored his repeated demands to see
an attorney. "Some lady"
said she saw defendant at 6:20 p.m. at or near the intersection of
Patricia's street near Main Street. So-called eyewitness from
Randolph County picked defendant out of photo lineup of 6 marines.
Defendant had seen the photo lineup last July. This woman did not
know defendant. Rumor beginning concerned a black Volvo. In 10 months the vehicle changed to a TEAL GREEN CAMERO.
Church told
defendant he would bring all his old girl friends to court to
embarrass him. Defendant
had court problem from teen years EXPUNGED. Told defendant his brother was involved in a lot of criminal acts he did not know about. Told
defendant he could have a contact visit with wife and get a reduced
charge if he confessed. Defendant
has told Church repeatedly that he was with wife and her parents -
Judy and James Stump (697-8909). 10/9/95
